Types of online sport bets

The world of online bets is filled with different types of wagers, and you should familiarise yourself with the major ones before you begin placing bets. Naturally, there will be some variations from sport to sport, as each sport is different.

Moneyline/Winner Bet

Some call them moneyline, and some simply refer to them as winner bets, as that’s precisely what they are. You’ll be betting on one team to win a specific game. For instance, if the Gujarat Titans and the Sunrisers Hyderabad are playing a match in the IPL, and the odds favour the Titans, you can place a moneyline bet on them to come out of the match victorious.

Over/Under or Totals Bet

Over/under bets are almost as common as winner bets. They let you bet on the total number of points scored. You will get to choose if it will go over or under a specific number. For example, in a football match, you can bet on the total number of goals scored by both teams. This is just an example — you are free to create a slip to your liking. You can’t use different betting markets from the same match on a single parlay bet, but almost everything else is an open game. You can choose various markets from different matches, or you can opt for easier ones, like winner bets.

With other sports — football, for instance — you can do a similar thing. For example, you can make three winner bets and two totals bets, or you can make one winner bet, one total, and one prop bet, or something entirely different. The important thing is that you have hundreds upon hundreds of possibilities, and that’s the beauty of parlay bets.

Sport Bet Odds Explained

We’ve already used odds in this guide — however, we focused on decimal sport bet odds only, and we believe it’s worth explaining each type.

Decimal Odds

Decimal odds are the simplest, and they are the ones 10CRIC focuses on. They indicate the amount of money you’ll get if you win the bet. They are represented as regular numbers with two decimal places, like 1.79, 2.15, or 9.50, for example. Calculating your winnings is simple, as you only need to multiply the odds with the stake you’ve placed. The slip on 10CRIC will calculate it automatically, but we still believe you should know how it does that.

For example, if the odds are 5.50 and you’ve staked ₹100, you’re set to win 5.50 x ₹100 = ₹550.

American Odds

American odds are shown as plus or minus odds. Minus is the sign for favourites, whereas plus is used for underdogs.

So, for example, if the odds are -500, you will have to stake ₹500 to win ₹100, as the odds tell you how much you need to invest to win ₹100. If the odds are +500 instead, you are set to win ₹500 for a ₹100 stake.

In both cases, you are going to win a total of ₹600 (winnings plus the stake), as the numbers either represent how much you need to stake or how much you can win without including the stake.

Fractional Odds

Fractional odds are shown as fractions, either with a hyphen or a slash. For example, a fractional odd is 6/1 or six-to-one. What this number shows is that you are set to win ₹6 for every ₹1 you invest or ₹600 for every ₹100. The total winnings, though, are ₹7 or ₹700, as fractional odds only show the winnings without the stake as well, just like American odds.

It’s slightly confusing, but to calculate the winnings, you only need to follow this formula:

(stake x (numerator / denominator) + stake) = total winnings

So, (₹100 x (₹600/₹100) + ₹100) = ₹700.
